For the love of junk

This past Saturday we went to an amazing digger estate sale. These are a few of our finds.

Growing up as a young girl my mom only had one roller skate. She would skate from one corner of the porch to the next over and over again. She also had a little red wagon with only three wheels. Now has her very own pair of roller skates!

Love, Love, Love, these issues of The Sunbeam. They are dated back to the early 1920's and have the cutest stories and illustrations!

Needlecraft Magazines... Love the pictures on theses too! I was lucky to find over 20 dated from 1917-1925.

I love reading about the happenings from long ago. I found envelopes full of ledger sheets, telegrams, sales tickets, hotel receipts and all sorts of purchase orders from The Goodman Store in Palmdale Ca. One of the purchase orders dated November 9th 1931 is for a 25# bag of sugar for $1.85 and 1 dozen cans of tomatoes for $2.25.

A Heavenly Sale

Oh my goodness !! We went to Angel's Attic sale over the week end. It was held in a lovely little cottage that was filled with oodles of treasures. These ladies( oh, we can't forget the man of the house, Jon) have been hard at work collecting, creating, and arranging all of these wonderful pieces. Everything was oh so beautiful and charming and wherever my eye landed, I thought, oh, yes, I love that, and oh, look at that, I want to take that home with me. But, Alas, a girl can have only so many pretties. A few objects did make their way home with me, a cute little framed picture of a nest, a small crown, glittered, of course, and Jen and I each bought a necklace made by the ever so sweet Kristen. Mine has a bird wearing a crown and Jen's is a crown. We love them so much, I think we just might sleep with them under our pillow!

While at the sale we ran into the ever so sweet Holly from Funky Junk, take a peek at her blog for some more pictures from the sale.

Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to work we go.

Kathy has been working on some of her ever so adorable charming bottles this week while I am finishing up some paper flowers made from old sewing patterns. Then I'm off to work on transforming old frames into chalkboards. We both feel extremely lucky to have the opportunity to actually do something we love. The count down is on, only 6 weeks until Farm Chicks and we are working our little fingers to the bone. It's off to work we go...

Signs of spring

I love spring! Everything so fresh and new and ALIVE! I don't know about you, but winter can sometimes be so boring after a while. Although I do love the change of seasons, by the end of winter I am soooo ready to have color back in my life. Heavenly Father has truly blessed us with all the beauty that surrounds us every day, yes even in those short gray days of winter there is beauty. But thank heaven for spring, it being one of my favorite times of the year. Oh, don't forget summer, that's the best of all.

This sweet little tree was a gift from my husband, the Wizard, for Mother's day last year. Forever and a day I had wanted a tree with pink blossoms and it almost took that long to get it. It is still rather small but it makes up for it in all the pink blossoms it worked so hard to produce. Thank you little pink tree. I really don't remember what kind of tree it is, I just know it is pink.

Soon to be lovely lilacs.

Oh my, pansies. Does anyone in their right mind not like pansies? They are so happy, you just have to smile back at them. They are so sweet and forgiving, especially if you forget to water them, oops, and they grow anywhere. I'm in love with pansies. When my youngest daughter was about three or four, she was helping me plant some pansies in our flower bed. She ask a question about the flowers and called them patunsies. So cute! Pansies....patunsies, same thing.

Oh Cupcake!!

You see, it all started when we decided to go to Porter's in Rexburg. We turned down College Street and it being a beautiful day and all, there weren't very many parking spaces available. Just as we rounded the corner we saw a car pull out of a space across the street from Porter's and we slowly(since the Wizard was driving)crawled into the space. As I was about to get out of the car I saw this sign beaming at me and luring me in. It didn't take long for others to follow.

The Cocoa Bean Cupcake Cafe

This is what we found...

Complete Bliss!

Need I say more?!!

Junkin all the way

This past week we traveled to southern Idaho for my brother and sister in law's graduation from college. It was a great event, and we are so happy for them, but.... if you know us, we just can't stop thinking about yard sales, thrift stores, and just plain good junk. We didn't have much time to go junkin, but we did manage to find a few things along the way.

Rainy days = creative days

With the weather being anything but sunny the past couple of days that means a lot of time indoors. I just wanted to share with you what Kathy made... By the way her arm is still in a sling from rotator cuff surgery. So with her one good hand she whipped up this adorable framed collage. She used some charming little girls shoes that she rescued from This Old House and sprinkled them with glitter and adorned them with some seam binding and flowers. She even used some cute scrapbook paper to line the shoes. A little piece of lace,a scrap of material, some letter tiles, and ta da look what she created! Kathy will have this for sale at The Farm Chicks Show in June.

Oh, and if you haven't already, become a fan of Unexpected Necessities of Facebook!

Days gone by...

Wow! It has been 2 weeks since our last post! Where has the time gone? I guess the saying the older you get the faster time seems to go by is true! Well, as the days go by and we age, we are still gonna be out there looking for some good old junk! Yesterday was a rainy kinda day, not many yard/estate sales, but we happened upon one that filled my car completely full. We got an old sewing table,5 chairs and a lot of odds and ends stuffed in there. Oh, and my daughter was sitting in the back seat somewhere too.

This is a longer post than usual in attempt to make up for the 2 weeks that we did not blog.... So bear with us! Today we took some lovely stuff out to This Old House to fill in our space that we rent. Here are a few pictures of the store. Kathy sold 5 aprons today! Woo Hoo!

This Old House is going to be having a May Day sale. (on May 1st) They will have numerous vendors set up outside of the store, some fun giveaways and even a May Day pole!

Gotta love the petticoat and cowboy boots!

Today we went to the Flea Market at the Fairgrounds. We did not find anything super wonderful, just a few vintage post cards and valentines.
