Cookies anyone?

SNICKERDOODLES

1/2 c butter, softened
1/2 c shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
2 1/4 c flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 Tbs sugar
2 tsp cinnamon

Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, sugar and the eggs.

Blend in flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt.

Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Mix sugar and cinnamon; roll balls in mixture.

Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Immediately remove from baking sheet. Makes about 6 dozen cookies. Heat oven to 400.

Adorable vintage pattern book

Last weekend we went to the Two Women Art and Antique show just outside of Spokane. I forgot my camera, so no pictures sorry, but we had to share the vintage pattern book we found there. This adorable McCalls pattern book is from 1944 and the pictures are absolutely charming!

A few things from home

This rocking chair used to belong to my grandmother, but has since been recovered by my mother.

Franciscan ware dishes that were alos my grandmothers adorn the cabinet in the kitchen.

Hats hung on an old hay rake hang in the living room. All of these hats were worn by my grandmother in the 50's -60's except the pink feathered one and the cute little red one which was my mother's hat.

Well used scrabble and checkers pieces.

For some reason I have been collecting vintage scrapbooks lately, even though I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them yet. Some seam binding, a bag full of vintage Christmas tags and a few pieces of vintage costume jewelery. Oh, and can't forget the cookbook ~ Mastering The Art of French Cooking by Julia Child ~ volume two.


The old scale was a recent find. The lady who we got it from said that it had belonged to her grandfather at one time. I have always wondered how you can get rid of something like that. I guess I am just a pack rat...

This picture is painted on fabric. Not sure how old it is, tried to look it up and could not find much about fabric paintings.

Farmers Market

We recently visited the Farmers Market in Hope,Id and wanted to share a few of the great vendors that we came across.

Umbrellas made from old skirts. Are they adorable or what!

I tried to post a website for the lady who makes these umbrellas and bags, but it would not let me. She is from Clark Fork,Id and her business name is Bags from Britches. Very creative!

A friend of mine, Suzy that I had not seen since shortly after high school was at the market selling her handcrafted custom jewelry. Her husband makes the chairs that are pictured, both are very talented artists!

Award for the best pea salad

FROZEN PEA SALAD

2 pkgs frozen peas (don't cook)

1 cup sliced water chestnuts rinsed and drained
1~ 4oz can cashews
1/2 lb bacon ~ crumbled
1 cup sliced green onions
ranch dressing to taste or as desired
(we use Litehouse Homestyle Ranch)

Mix all ingredients together in large bowl. Coat with ranch dressing as desired.Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.


Recently while at our family reunion Kathy was awarded the prize for best pea salad. We thought that we would share the recipe so you can try it for yourself, and for those who asked for it at the reunion. Kathy also made a Broccoli Bacon Salad that was my favorite. The recipe is below. ENJOY!!!


BROCCOLI BACON SALAD

1 clove garlic ~ minced
1/4 cup low fat mayonnaise
1/4 cup reduced fat sour cream
2 teaspoons cider vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
4 cups finely chopped broccoli crowns
1 8oz can sliced water chestnuts,rinsed and chopped
3 ~4 slices cooked bacon ~ crumbled
3 tablespoons dried cranberries
freshly ground pepper to taste

Whisk garlic, mayonnaise,sour cream,vinegar and sugar in a large bowl. Add broccoli,water chestnuts,bacon,cranberries and pepper; stir to coat with dressing. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

We took a ride with Pend Oreille Pedal Cabs through downtown Sandpoint and arouind the City Beach. If you plan on visiting Sandpoint, I recommend that you take a ride.

Junkers delight

We had so much fun at a recent yard sale and came home with a truck full of goods. It is hard to see from the picture, but there are 6 dressers and alot of odds and ends pieces that we cannot wait to create something new out of.

Hiking in Riverside State Park

The other day we went hiking in Riverside State Park to see some eagles and their nest that we had been hearing about. It was about 2 1/2 miles(uphill most of the way) all together,but totally worth it. The view was spectacular,and we were lucky to see the two young eagles waiting for mom to bring them dinner.
