Farm Chicks is only 4 months away!!!!

Oh yeah, Farm Chicks!! It's coming up soon, only four months away, and believe me it will go by fast. Oh, so much to do. You remember seeing all the furniture we have in the shop, well most of it will end up being painted and shabbied up. We have been bringing home loads of stuff from estate sales and thrift stores, all cool, amazing and Farm Chicky, of course! We always look forward to The Farm Chicks show, not only to sell, but to see what fantastic things other vendors come up with...and I guess I should also say, yes, we do some shopping, too.
This year Serena has some new additions to the show, one being a man or should I say MAN CAVE. Yes, you read that right! Isn't that a wonderful idea??! I love it and I know my dear husband, who I call The Wizard, (because he really can do anything) will also love it. Last year he was our "gopher" and he would hang out with a few other guys when he wasn't needed. One man said to him, "Have you ever seen so many happy women in one place?" Isn't that just so true? The Farm Chicks show just makes us HAPPY!!!
Another exciting happening is that Jo Packham, the editor of Where Women Create magazine, will be there. I don't know the details, but I am sure it will be fun and interesting. You can click on The Farm Chick link on our sidebar and it will give you more information. Now, off to work I go!

Our Creative Lives = HAPPINESS!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

We like to make stuff. We love to be creative, you know, to find new uses for all that "stuff". The little wheels in our brains are in constant motion. The need to create something is a must, it is who we are and it makes us HAPPY!! When we create something we feel to be beautiful we like to share with the world that beauty. So, here we have some gorgeous paper flowers made by Jennifer and the pretty little hearts are made by Kathy. They are for sale in our space at This Old House or we will gladly do a custom order and ship to you.

These delicate paper flowers are made using old sheet music. A touch of glitter has been added to give just the right amount of charm. The flowers are 4 to 5 inches wide and are attached to a skewer stick and measure anywhere between 11 in -13 in in length. Sticks can easily be cut for shorter length. Flowers are selling for $4.00 each or 6 for $20.00.

These sweet little hearts are handmade and measure approximately 4 1/2" by 7 1/2" for the large ones and the small ones measure 3" by 5". They are embellished with vintage lace, ribbons and jewels and most have a stamped image of some sort. The close up pictures are of large hearts. The large and small hearts sell for 10.00 each. If you would like more information contact us.

A set of gold, soon to be white scalloped edge dessert cup looking dishes ~ not really sure what they were used for, but we have a vision of what they could become. Check back, we will post the finished project soon...
A few adorable cards.
We though the old patterns would work great for wrapping our goodies in that we sell on etsy, here and here. Notice the one on the top, the one with the striped dress. Totally 80's! Brings back some memories!

Happy New Years!!!

Black Eyed Peas have always been a part of our New Years Day Meal. They are said to bring you good luck in the coming year. We had baked chicken, green beans, homemade rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra. YUM!

For Dessert we had Apple Pudding cake. The picture looks like chunky meat loaf, but it is really tasty!

APPLE PUDDING CAKE

Cream 2 cups sugar and 1/2 cup butter. Add 2 eggs, mix well.
Chop 6 medium apples and add to mixture, mix well.
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
1 cup chopped nuts ~ optional (we did not add the nuts to ours)
Add to mixture and mix well. Bake for 30 ~ 35 minutes at 350.
Place in a greased 13 x 9 pan.

SAUCE

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sweet cream
1/2 cup brown sugar
mix and bring to a boil.
Sauce is best when warm and drizzled over apple pudding cake.

Merry Christmas!

Wishing all of our friends and family a Very Merry Christmas!

Oh Christmas tree... Oh Christmas tree...

So this years Christmas tree almost did not make it home. We went to a local Christmas tree stand, picked out he perfect tree, paid $30.00, had the guy tie it to the top of the car and off we went. Only one problem... we noticed the guy used a very thin cotton string to tie the tree to the top of the car. O.k. we thought, it must work, he does this all day long. A couple of stops later and half way home we heard a noise that we knew was not good. We pulled over along side the road to take a look at the damage and well yes, you guessed it.... the thin cotton string had broken leaving the tree hanging half way off the car. After pulling the tree back into position and attempting to mend the thin cotton string we were on the road again. It was not long before the string just gave out and the tree was sliding off the car once again. So there we sat along side the road waiting for the WIZARD to come a rescue us. After waiting about 15 minutes the WIZARD arrived with bungee cords in tow and secured the tree so we could all get home safely. After arriving home and locating the tree stand we proceed to put the tree up.... ha! After many attempts to get the tree straight in the stand we finally decided that we needed the WIZARDS help once again. While waiting for him to come and take a look to see why the tree will not stand straight, the tree fell over. Are we just not meant to have a tree this year? After a careful examination of the tree he determined that a small piece of wood should be wedged in between the tree and the stand to keep it from falling over. After a couple of trips back and forth to the shop to get the exact size of wood, ta~da! the tree was up and it is still standing! Amazing! Thanks WIZARD!!!
